  • TRI-CENTER GIRLS SOCCER ONE GAME AWAY FROM STATE

(Neola) 10-5 Tri-Center goes up against 15-4 St. Albert tonight in the Class 1A Region 1 soccer final tonight. At stake is a trip to the state tournament.

Tri-Center girls soccer coach Jeff Lefeber says he’s not surprised that his team’s season is still alive heading into the regional finals. Tonight against St. Albert will be a rematch of an April 13th game that St. Albert won 7-1. Allison Cox scored five goals for St. Albert in that first meeting prompting Tri-Center to focus their defense on her tonight.

Cox ranks 4th in class 1A in goals scored this season. The state leader is Tri-Center’s own Kaylee Grotee who has scored 48 goals for the year. Lefeber describes Grotee as a great player who makes everyone on the team better.

Tri-Center has never advanced to the state tourney in girls soccer. Coach Lefeber says making it to state would show the team how important all of their off-season work as been.
